Maxell Asia Ltd. has developed new packaging for its button battery products with the aim of improving safety, and will begin a phased launch starting in October 2026.

Background

In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for enhanced measures regarding quality and safety in battery products. In particular, button batteries are small in size, which raises the risk of accidental ingestion, making safety labeling and packaging functionality more important than ever.

To address these challenges, we have developed new packaging that incorporates advanced identification technology and enhanced safety features while maintaining the existing design concept.

Key Features
1. Child-Resistant Design (for CR Coin Batteries)

The packaging has been redesigned based on IEC standards and adopts a child-resistant design to help prevent accidental ingestion by children.

• Difficult-to-open structure to prevent unintended opening
• Enhanced warning labels such as “KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN”
• Clear cautions regarding the risks associated with accidental ingestion
• Strengthened compliance with IEC safety standards to increase market confidence

2. Updated Design (Improved Color and Visibility)

• Color change from black to navy to strengthen brand recognition
• Improved visibility through a standardized packaging layout
• Clear indication of environmental information such as “Hg 0%”

In addition, following the design concept established for CR coin batteries, a unified “family design” will be applied. The design of SR (silver oxide) and LR (alkaline button) batteries will also be renewed to ensure consistent brand identity across the entire button battery lineup.

These enhancements improve brand recognition and reinforce reliability at retail locations.

3. Coverage Across a Wide Product Lineup
The new packaging will be rolled out across the following main product series:

• Lithium batteries (CR series)
• Alkaline button batteries (LR series)
• Silver oxide batteries (SR series)

It will be available in various formats, including multi-packs and retail blister packs, to meet different usage needs.
