We at Maxell have recently identified counterfeit CR2032 lithium coin batteries circulating in the market. After conducting thorough testing at our headquarters in Japan, we confirmed that these counterfeit products deliver significantly lower performance and pose serious risks to both devices and users.

Our tests revealed that the counterfeit batteries offer only about half the capacity of our genuine CR2032 batteries. Specifically, while our authentic product delivers a capacity of 220mAh, the counterfeit versions measured only 140mAh and 124mAh, respectively.

Why You Should Avoid Counterfeit Batteries:

• Shortened Battery Life – Counterfeit batteries typically offer only about half the capacity of genuine Maxell batteries.
• Unreliable Performance – These batteries may cause malfunctions to your electronic belongings, especially in sensitive electronic devices.
• Safety Hazards – Counterfeit batteries carry a higher risk of leakage, overheating, or even explosion, which may result in injury or damage.
• Poor Packaging – Poor packaging quality such as the use of staples, offers inadequate protection and increases the risk of product degradation and potential safety hazards.

Findings:

How to Identify Counterfeit Batteries:

• Packaging is loose (e.g., stapled) or not in the latest official Maxell design.
• Wrong company name such as “Hitachi Maxell Ltd.” or “Hitachi Maxell Global”.
• Blurred or distorted Maxell logo and product engravings.
• Irregular font spacing and untidy surface finish.
• Noticeably lighter weight compared to genuine batteries.
• No inkjet-printed lot number on the battery surface.
